Sporting Kansas City Acquires Defender Justin Reynolds from Chicago Fire

Must read

Sporting Kansas City has acquired 21-year-old defender Justin Reynolds from Chicago Fire FC in exchange for a natural third-round pick in the 2028 MLS SuperDraft and up to $100,000 in General Allocation Money contingent on performance incentives, the club announced Tuesday.

Chicago Fire FC will also retain a sell-on percentage should Reynolds be transferred in the future. The right back, a Chicago Homegrown Player, joins Sporting KC as the club’s 17th player under contract for the 2026 season.

Reynolds brings MLS experience and international exposure to Kansas City’s backline. The young defender spent time on loan with Swiss side FC Lugano in 2024 before returning to Chicago, where he scored his first senior goal against Inter Miami on September 30, 2025.

The transaction represents Sporting KC’s continued roster building ahead of the 2026 campaign, adding a young, versatile defender with room to develop. For Chicago, the deal provides future draft capital and financial flexibility while maintaining a financial stake in Reynolds’ career trajectory through the sell-on clause.
