Must read

Seattle Sounders FC announced Monday that midfielder Paul Rothrock has signed a contract extension through the 2028 season, with a club option for 2029. The 26-year-old Seattle native, who emerged as a key contributor in 2025, will continue his career with his hometown club after coming through the Sounders Academy system.

Rothrock enjoyed a breakout 2025 campaign, making 47 appearances across all competitions while tallying five goals and nine assists. His most memorable moment came in the Leagues Cup Final, where he scored the clinching goal in Seattle’s victory over Inter Miami. The midfielder also featured for the Sounders in the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup, gaining valuable experience on the global stage.

A product of the Sounders Academy, Rothrock joined the First Team in August 2023 and has steadily increased his role in the squad. His versatility and work rate have made him an important piece of Seattle’s midfield rotation.

\”Paul embodies the kind of Pacific Northwest grit that has always defined what it means to be a Sounder,\” the club said in its announcement. \”He does the hard work, he competes and he never shies away from the tough moments.\”

For Rothrock, the decision to remain in Seattle was about more than just football. \”Seattle is home,\” he said. \”There were other opportunities, but my heart has always been here.\”

The contract extension secures one of the Sounders’ homegrown talents through at least the next three seasons as the club continues to build its roster for the 2026 campaign.
