Austin FC Acquires Joseph Rosales from Minnesota for $1.5 Million

Must read

Austin FC has acquired Honduran international Joseph Rosales from Minnesota United FC in exchange for $1.5 million in allocation money, the club announced. The 25-year-old defender/midfielder has signed a new contract through June 2029 with an option for the 2029-30 season.

Rosales brings significant MLS experience to Austin, having made 128 appearances for Minnesota United over multiple seasons, recording five goals and 18 assists. The versatile player has also earned 34 caps for the Honduras national team, adding international pedigree to Austin’s roster.

The transaction represents a straightforward cash-for-player deal, though Minnesota United will retain a percentage of any future transfer fees should Rosales be sold abroad for a sum exceeding a predetermined threshold. The Honduran will occupy a Senior roster slot but holds a U.S. Green Card, meaning he will not count against Austin’s international player limits.

Rosales’ ability to play multiple positions across the backline and midfield provides Austin FC with tactical flexibility as the club looks to bolster its roster depth. His 3.5-year contract signals a long-term investment by the Texas club in a player entering his prime years.
