FC Dallas rode a late strike from Santiago Moreno to a 2-1 victory over Minnesota United FC on Wednesday at Allianz Field, overcoming a second-half equalizer to leave Minnesota with a home defeat.
The visitors broke through in the 62nd minute when Kaick da Silva Ferreira finished off a pass from Joaquín Valiente Cioli to put FC Dallas ahead. Minnesota responded quickly, drawing level in the 73rd minute through Kelvin Yeboah.
But the lead was short-lived for the hosts. In the 84th minute, Moreno scored what proved to be the winner, converting a setup from Samuel Sarver to restore the visitors’ advantage.
The result reflected an FC Dallas edge in attacking output. The visitors registered 13 total shots to Minnesota’s nine and put six of them on goal, compared with two on target for the home side. FC Dallas also earned six corner kicks to Minnesota’s two.
Minnesota United held a slight edge in possession at 52 percent and completed 379 accurate passes to FC Dallas’s 349. The hosts also had eight shots inside the box, but managed only two on target as FC Dallas goalkeeping produced one save. Minnesota’s goalkeeper made three saves in the match.
The physical contest produced 21 fouls from FC Dallas and 13 from Minnesota, with each side picking up two yellow cards and no red cards. FC Dallas’s Osaze Urhoghide was booked for a foul in the seventh minute, and Ramiro was cautioned in the 83rd. For Minnesota, Nectarios Triantis was shown a yellow card in the 69th minute and Owen Gene was booked in the 89th.
Both managers turned to their benches in the second half. Minnesota made a double change in the 63rd minute, bringing on Marcus Caldeira for Tomás Chancalay and Jefferson Abel Díaz Beleño for Carlos Harvey. In the 74th minute, Kelvin Yeboah was replaced by Maurice Malone and Nectarios Triantis came off for Owen Gene. Wil Trapp entered for Mauricio González Carabalí in the 84th minute.
FC Dallas made changes in the 77th minute, sending on Christian Cappis for Santiago Moreno and Ran Binyamin for Herman Johansson. Logan Farrington replaced Samuel Sarver in the 84th minute.
The win moved FC Dallas to 37 points on the season, placing the club fourth in the Western Conference with a record of 10 wins, seven draws and six losses through 23 matches. FC Dallas holds a plus-5 goal differential, having scored 45 goals and conceded 40. The result extended a recent run reflected in the club’s WDLWW form.
Minnesota United FC dropped to 29 points and sits 11th in the Western Conference after 23 matches, with a record of seven wins, eight draws and eight losses. The hosts have a minus-3 goal differential, scoring 34 goals while allowing 37. Minnesota entered the match on an LDWLD run of form.
The two Western Conference sides remained separated by eight points in the table following the result at Allianz Field.
