Must read

Vancouver Whitecaps FC have acquired Senegalese international forward Cheikh Sabaly from French club FC Metz, the MLS side announced Wednesday. The 26-year-old has signed a contract through the 2028-29 season with a club option for 2029-30.

Sabaly led FC Metz with 15 goals during the 2024-25 Ligue 2 campaign, contributing 19 total goal participations as the club secured promotion to France’s top flight. Over his professional career in France, the forward has registered 43 goals and 29 assists across 209 appearances.

The signing adds international pedigree to Vancouver’s attacking corps. Sabaly was part of Senegal’s 2025 Africa Cup of Nations-winning squad and has earned 12 caps for his country, scoring once.

\”Cheikh is an athletic, dynamic attacking player who last season helped his team with 19 goal participations to promote to Ligue 1,\” Whitecaps FC sporting director Axel Schuster said. \”He has developed in highly competitive environments with Metz and the Senegal national team, and we believe the quality and experience he brings will make an immediate impact on our group.\”

For Sabaly, the move represents his first venture outside European football. \”This will be my first experience playing in North America, and I can’t wait to help the team continue to compete for trophies by bringing my best on the pitch,\” he said.

The acquisition adds depth to Vancouver’s forward line ahead of the 2026 MLS season.
