FC Dallas Send Maarten Paes to Ajax

Must read

Dallas Loses a Fan Favorite Between the Posts

FC Dallas just said goodbye to one of the most beloved players to ever wear the red and white. Goalkeeper Maarten Paes is heading back to the Netherlands, but this time he’s joining one of Europe’s most iconic clubs: Ajax.

The 27-year-old Indonesian international spent four seasons in Texas, and based on his emotional farewell message, it’s clear this wasn’t just another stop on his career path. “Dallas meant so much to me,” Paes said in his goodbye. “These have been the most beautiful years of my life, and I enjoyed every single minute.”

From Utrecht to Dallas to Amsterdam

Paes originally came over from FC Utrecht back in 2022, and he quickly became a fixture in net for Dallas. Over 128 appearances across all competitions, he racked up 26 clean sheets and developed a reputation as one of the league’s most athletic shot-stoppers.

His 2024 campaign was particularly special. Not only did he earn MLS All-Star honors, but he also took home the MLS Save of the Year award. Those highlight-reel stops became must-watch moments for Dallas fans.

The Indonesian connection is another fascinating chapter in Paes’ story. After representing the Netherlands at the youth level, he received Indonesian citizenship in 2024 and has since earned 10 caps for the national team. That dual heritage made him a unique figure in MLS.

What’s Next for FC Dallas?

With Paes gone, Dallas is turning to homegrown talent Michael Collodi as their number one. It’s a big opportunity for the young keeper to step up and fill some enormous gloves.

The club kicks off their 2026 season on February 21st with a home match against Toronto FC. It’ll be the first time in four years Dallas fans won’t see Paes commanding that box, and you can bet there will be plenty of appreciation shown for what he gave this club.

Ajax is getting themselves a proven performer who’s battle-tested in MLS. Dallas is losing a keeper who truly embraced the city and became part of the fabric of this team. As Paes himself said: “Dallas till I die.”
