Sporting KC Signs Defenders Wyatt Meyer and Jayden Reid to One-Year Deals

Sporting Kansas City has signed defenders Wyatt Meyer and Jayden Reid to one-year contracts through the 2026 season, the club announced Tuesday. Both 24-year-old players earned their deals after successful trials during the first leg of preseason in Florida.

Meyer, who will wear No. 28, joins from Nashville SC where he landed after being selected 11th overall in the 2024 MLS SuperDraft. Reid, assigned No. 99, arrives from St. Louis City SC and developed through the Red Bull New York Academy system.

The contracts include club options for 2027 in Meyer’s case and 2027-2028 for Reid, providing Sporting KC with flexibility as they assess both players’ long-term fit. The signings bring the club’s roster to 20 players under contract for the 2026 campaign.

Sporting KC’s technical staff praised both additions for their preseason performances and adaptability. The club noted that Meyer and Reid \”have adapted quickly to the demands of the coaching staff and have integrated seamlessly into the group during preseason while showing a clear commitment to the club.\”

Meyer’s versatility stood out during the trial period. The club highlighted that he \”is a left-footed player that can play both center back or in the midfield and his versatility will provide valuable depth and competition.\” Meanwhile, Reid brings MLS experience to the left back position, with the club describing him as \”an athletic left back with MLS experience that has the characteristics and profile that we are looking for in that position.\”

Both players will continue with Sporting KC as the club progresses through its preseason preparations ahead of the 2026 MLS season.
