Seattle Sounders FC dropped their first preseason match of 2026, falling 2-0 to Danish Superliga side Brøndby IF on Thursday at Estádio Algarve in Portugal.
Benjamin Tahirovic opened the scoring for Brøndby in the 29th minute, and Marko Divkovic sealed the result with a penalty in the first minute of stoppage time to hand the Sounders a defeat in their opening friendly.
Seattle created chances throughout the match but could not find the breakthrough. Snyder Brunell had a shot saved in the 18th minute, while Danny Musovski came closest to scoring when his effort struck the goalpost in the 71st minute.
Head coach Brian Schmetzer utilized the friendly to evaluate his roster, fielding two completely different lineups in each half as the team continues preparations for the upcoming MLS season.
The Sounders will continue their European preseason tour with a pair of matches on February 5 in Marbella, Spain, facing Swedish club Hammarby IF and Ukrainian side FC Metalist 1925.
