Minnesota United Receive Tomás Chancalay from New England Revolution

Must read

The Loons Add Argentine Firepower to Their Attack

Minnesota United just made a big splash in the MLS transfer market, bringing in Argentine winger Tomás Chancalay from New England in exchange for $100,000 in general allocation money. The Revolution also secured a sell-on percentage if Chancalay eventually moves to a club outside MLS.

This move addresses a major need for the Loons, who just watched two of their key attackers walk out the door. Joseph Rosales got shipped to Austin FC earlier this week, while Robin Lod—Minnesota’s all-time leading scorer—signed with Chicago Fire as a free agent. That’s a lot of offensive production to replace.

What Chancalay Brings to Allianz Field

The 26-year-old attacking midfielder arrives with solid MLS credentials. Since joining the Revs on loan in July 2023 before making the move permanent that November, Chancalay has racked up 17 goals and 3 assists across 58 appearances in all competitions.

Khaled El-Ahmad, Minnesota’s chief soccer officer and sporting director, didn’t hold back his excitement about the acquisition.

“He’s a versatile attacking player with MLS experience who has the ability to impact games in a variety of ways. We believe he will complement our playing style and strengthen our attack.”

Before his stint in New England, Chancalay cut his teeth in Argentina with Colón and Racing Club. He also earned six caps with Argentina’s U-20 national team, showing he’s been on the radar of top-level scouts for years.

Contract Details and What’s Next

Minnesota locked Chancalay down through the 2027-28 season with a club option for 2028-29, giving them control over a key piece of their attack for the foreseeable future. The deal also freed up a Designated Player slot for New England, giving both clubs what they needed.

For his part, Chancalay sounds ready to get to work in the Twin Cities. His message to Minnesota fans was simple and direct—he’s here to create memorable moments at Allianz Field.

The Loons finished fourth in the Western Conference last season with 58 points and made it to the Conference Semifinals before bowing out. With Chancalay now in the fold, they’re betting they can push even deeper into the playoffs in 2026.
