**MILAN** — Scott McTominay’s stunning performance, capped by a dramatic 81st-minute equalizer, salvaged a 2-2 draw for Napoli at the San Siro on Sunday, denying Inter all three points in a pulsating Serie A encounter.
The Scottish midfielder was the undisputed man of the match with a remarkable 9.2 rating, scoring twice and recording four interceptions to single-handedly drag his side back into contention on multiple occasions.
Inter started brightly when Federico Dimarco opened the scoring in the ninth minute, giving the Nerazzurri an early advantage. The hosts controlled proceedings with marginally superior possession (50.1%) and significantly outshot their visitors 13-7, but clinical finishing would prove their downfall.
McTominay restored parity in the 26th minute, finishing from Eljif Elmas’s assist to level before halftime. Inter’s midfield, featuring strong showings from Nicolò Barella (four key passes) and Dimarco (7.7 rating), continued pressing after the break.
The hosts appeared destined for victory when VAR confirmed a penalty in the 69th minute. Hakan Çalhanoğlu stepped up four minutes later to convert from the spot, restoring Inter’s lead and seemingly settling the contest.
But McTominay had other ideas. The former Manchester United man struck again in the 81st minute, this time assisted by Noa Lang, to complete his brace and stun the San Siro faithful.
Inter manager shuffled his pack desperately, making five substitutions including withdrawing Marcus Thuram, Çalhanoğlu, and goal-scorer Dimarco, but couldn’t find a winner. Napoli’s Juan Jesus picked up a late yellow card as tensions boiled over in stoppage time.
Despite Inter’s territorial dominance and superior shot volume, McTominay’s individual brilliance proved the difference, earning Napoli a valuable point on hostile ground.
