Kossa-Rienzi’s Early Strike Lifts Seattle Past St. Louis 1-0
SEATTLE SOUNDERS FC earned a hard-fought 1-0 victory over St. Louis CITY SC on Saturday at Energizer Park, with substitute Kalani Kossa-Rienzi scoring just two minutes into the second half to secure all three points on the road.
Kossa-Rienzi, who entered the match in the 23rd minute as an injury replacement for Yeimar Gómez Andrade, capitalized on a pass from Jesús Ferreira in the 47th minute to break the deadlock. The goal proved to be the difference-maker in a tightly contested affair.
Goalkeeper Andrew Thomas anchored Seattle’s defensive effort, making five saves to record his second clean sheet of the young season. Thomas’s performance was crucial in preserving the narrow advantage as St. Louis pressed for an equalizer throughout the match.
The victory improves Seattle’s record to 2-1-0 with six points through three matches, while St. Louis falls to 0-2-1 with just one point as the expansion side continues searching for its first win of the campaign.
Seattle now shifts its focus to continental competition, facing Vancouver in the Concacaf Champions Cup on March 12 before returning to league action.
