Oklahoma State Football will look very different next year. But new head coach Eric Morris is ready to take the program to new heights. He believes that the Cowboys can compete for a championship.
The energy at Boone Pickens Stadium was absolutely electric as Morris took center stage at what might’ve been the most amped-up press conference in college football history. This wasn’t just some stuffy introduction with boring corporate speak. This was a full-blown pep rally, and Morris came ready to light the fire.
Small Town Roots, Big Time Dreams
Morris didn’t waste time getting real with Cowboy Nation. The Shallowater, Texas native – that’s a town of 2,000 people, folks – made it crystal clear this job means everything to him. He talked about that framed poster of the Big 12’s inaugural season hanging in his childhood bedroom when he was just 11 years old, Oklahoma State right there on the wall.
This isn’t some mercenary move. This is a guy who’s been dreaming about this moment his entire life.
“Can we win a championship? My answer to that is hell yes. We can win a damn championship around here.”
That’s the kind of fire Stillwater has been waiting for. Morris laid out his vision with zero hesitation – Oklahoma State has every single advantage needed to compete at the highest level. Elite facilities, passionate fans, incredible support, and they’re playing in the best conference in America.
The Blueprint is Simple: Outwork Everyone
Morris didn’t sugarcoat what’s ahead. When he met with the team for the first time, he told them straight up this won’t be easy. The Cowboys will build their identity in the cold, dark hours of the offseason when nobody’s watching. Toughness and grit will be their advantage.
He’s bringing in what he calls one of the top young coaching staffs in the country. Coaches who can develop talent, build relationships, and go toe-to-toe with anyone on the recruiting trail. Speaking of recruiting, Morris made his territorial stance abundantly clear when discussing a certain school to the south.
Let’s just say he’s ready to bring that rivalry game back with open arms.
Family First, Championships Second
What really hit different was watching Morris get emotional talking about his wife Maggie and sons Jack and George. The man brought 20 family members to his introduction. His 5-year-old George stole the show, coming on stage to talk about getting Bullet the horse in shape for all those touchdowns they’re about to score.
Morris made it clear his family will be embedded in the Stillwater community. His kids will attend Stillwater public schools. This isn’t a stepping stone – this is home.
The quarterback whisperer has arrived in Stillwater with championship expectations and the swagger to back it up. After watching Morris address Cowboy Nation with that kind of passion and clarity, one thing’s certain: Oklahoma State football just got a whole lot more interesting.
