Serhou Guirassy was in tip top form on Wednesday night as Dortmund routed Villarreal 4-0. The French striker scored a brace, with one goal coming at the end of the first half. The second goal came just 9 minutes into the second half.
Villarreal’s Night From Hell
The Spanish side’s misery was compounded by captain Juan Foyth’s red card just seven minutes into the second half. The defender was dismissed for using his hand to block Karim Adeyemi’s shot on the line.
Match referee Davide Massa pointed to the spot. Guirassy’s initial penalty was saved by Luiz Junior, but the striker ruthlessly buried the rebound to complete his brace.
Adeyemi Adds the Magic
The German winger put the game to bed with a spectacular goal in the 58th minute. Adeyemi played a beautiful one-two with Julian Brandt before Thomas Partey’s intervention resulted in the ball striking the winger and looping over the Brazilian keeper.
Niko Kovač tried to salvage something by bringing on Fábio Silva and Chukwuemeka, but the damage was done. Silva later missed from the penalty spot, hitting the crossbar when handed a late opportunity.
Late Flourish
Daniel Svensson added the fourth in injury time, heading home after good work from Jobe Bellingham and Pascal Groß down the right flank.
What’s Next
BVB climb the Champions League standings with this emphatic win. Guirassy’s double should silence critics questioning his €18m price tag from Stuttgart. The striker now has 4 goals in his last 3 appearances across all competitions.
For Villarreal, this was a reality check. Down to 10 men for most of the match, they looked toothless against a Dortmund side that’s finding its European rhythm at the perfect time.
