The Colorado Rapids wasted no time making moves this offseason, pulling off a significant trade to bring winger Dante Sealy to the Mile High City. In exchange for sending a hefty financial package to CF Montréal, the Rapids landed one of MLS’s most explosive young talents—a 22-year-old left-footed speedster who’s ready to light up Dick’s Sporting Goods Park.
The Price Tag and What Montréal Gets Back
Montréal didn’t let Sealy go cheap. The Rapids are sending $1.9 million in guaranteed General Allocation Money split across the next two seasons—$1.15 million hitting in 2026 and another $750,000 in 2027. Add in $600,000 in conditional GAM, and you’re looking at a potential $2.5 million total package.
But wait, there’s more. Montréal also secured a sell-on clause, meaning if Sealy eventually transfers for big money, they’ll get a cut. Smart business from the Canadian club, who watched Sealy bag nine goals and two assists in 30 appearances last season.
Why This Move Makes Sense for Colorado
Rapids head coach Matt Wells didn’t hide his excitement about landing Sealy. “He adds a new dimension to the squad with his ability to dominate in one v. one situations,” Wells said. That left-footed balance in the attacking half? That’s been missing in Colorado, and Sealy brings exactly that kind of edge.
The Trinidad & Tobago international isn’t just fast—he’s the kind of player who can embarrass defenders in tight spaces and create chances out of nothing. His pressing intensity fits Wells’s system perfectly, and his mentality sealed the deal. “I was very impressed with his drive and ambition,” Wells noted.
Sealy’s Journey to the Rapids
Before his breakout year in Montréal, Sealy spent five seasons developing with FC Dallas as a homegrown product from 2020 to 2024. He even got loaned to PSV Eindhoven’s reserve squad in the Netherlands, gaining valuable European experience.
Internationally, Sealy has four goals in 10 caps for Trinidad and Tobago. He also came up through the U.S. youth national team system, giving him a well-rounded soccer education that shows in his technical ability.
Colorado finished 11th in the Western Conference last season with 41 points, missing the playoffs. With Sealy now in the fold, the Rapids are clearly serious about getting back into postseason contention. This wasn’t a depth move—this was a statement.
