We are in the midst of transfer season with the portal opening in less than 2 weeks. Cincinnati QB Brendan Sorsby will enter the transfer portal.
Sorsby’s decision comes after a rollercoaster 2025 campaign that saw the Bearcats start hot before completely falling apart down the stretch. The redshirt junior signal-caller lit up defenses all season long, putting together numbers that had him in conversations as one of the nation’s elite quarterbacks.
From Playoff Contender to Portal Bound
The 6-foot-3, 205-pound quarterback torched opposing secondaries for 2,800 yards and 27 touchdowns against just five picks while completing 62% of his throws across 12 games. Those are elite numbers by any measure. Cincinnati looked like they might crash the College Football Playoff party after racing out to a 7-1 start, but the wheels came off in spectacular fashion with four straight losses to close out the year at 7-5.
That late-season collapse appears to have sealed Sorsby’s fate in Cincinnati. He’ll have one year of eligibility remaining and is expected to generate massive interest once he officially enters the portal when it opens on January 2.
The Journey to Cincinnati
Sorsby’s path to becoming one of the country’s top quarterbacks has been anything but straightforward. He originally signed with Indiana as part of their 2022 class, ranked as the No. 83 quarterback in the nation. After limited action as a freshman, he won the starting job in 2023 and threw for 1,587 yards and 15 touchdowns.
But when Tom Allen got axed and Curt Cignetti took over, Sorsby bolted for Cincinnati. That move paid off immediately as he broke out in his first season with the Bearcats before truly establishing himself as an elite quarterback this fall.
Quarterback Portal Frenzy
Sorsby joins an absolutely loaded quarterback market. Florida’s DJ Lagway and Michigan State’s Aidan Chiles both announced their transfer intentions on the same day. Lagway was the top quarterback recruit and a five-star in the 2024 class, while Chiles was a blue-chip prospect who originally signed with Oregon State.
Arizona State’s Sam Leavitt, who was a preseason Heisman dark horse, and Notre Dame backup Kenny Minchey are also in the mix. And we’re still three weeks out from the portal officially opening, which means more big names are coming.
The quarterback carousel is spinning faster than ever, and Sorsby just secured himself a prime seat. Programs looking for an experienced, proven signal-caller with elite production will be lining up to make their pitch.
