Bayern Munich is no longer required to purchase striker Nicolas Jackson at the end of the loan term. As a substitute Jackson has scored 4 goals in 547 minutes.
The Math Doesn’t Add Up
The clause was simple: Jackson needed 40 combined appearances in Bundesliga and Champions League, either starting or playing at least 45 minutes. He’s managed just 6 appearances so far, with a maximum of 33 games remaining in the campaign.
The African Cup of Nations kills any remaining hope. Jackson will be away with Senegal from December 21 to January 18 – prime fixture congestion time when Bayern could have loaded him with minutes.
Production Despite Limited Time
Jackson’s efficiency is undeniable. Four goals and one assist in 547 minutes translates to a goal every 137 minutes – elite numbers for a player primarily used as a substitute.
Vincent Kompany has used Jackson sparingly, preferring other options in the striker role. The Senegalese international has started just twice in those six appearances, showing Bayern never fully committed to making the loan permanent.
What’s Next
Jackson likely starts against St. Pauli tomorrow as Bayern rotate ahead of their London trip. But it’s too little, too late for the obligation clause.
