Austin FC Acquires $235K in GAM from Real Salt Lake for International Slot

Austin FC acquired $235,000 in 2026 General Allocation Money from Real Salt Lake in exchange for an international roster slot, the club announced Tuesday.

The trade provides Austin FC with immediate salary cap flexibility while limiting their roster construction options only temporarily. Under the terms of the deal, Real Salt Lake will retain the international roster slot until July 13, 2026, when the Secondary Transfer Window opens. At that point, the slot will revert back to Austin FC.

The transaction allows Real Salt Lake to address international roster needs during the primary portion of the 2026 MLS season, while Austin FC gains significant allocation money that can be used toward player acquisitions or contract adjustments. The $235,000 in GAM gives Austin FC additional resources as the club navigates roster decisions ahead of the summer transfer window.

International roster slots have become increasingly valuable commodities in MLS as clubs balance domestic and foreign talent. The temporary nature of this deal reflects the league’s evolving approach to roster flexibility, allowing teams to address short-term needs while maintaining long-term options.
